Using dot is simple:
- Click the dot icon floating on any webpage
- A new tab opens with the cosmic portal
- Focus on the center point for 60 seconds
- When the timer ends, you'll automatically return to your work
The focus exercise is designed to train your attention. Switching tabs defeats the purpose. If you try to leave, dot will gently remind you to stay focused. This isn't a restriction—it's a feature that helps build your concentration muscle.
Yes! dot is based on research by Stanford neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman. The technique of focusing on a single point for 30-60 seconds has been shown to prime the brain's attention networks, making it easier to maintain focus on subsequent tasks. It's like a warm-up for your brain.
No. dot operates entirely on your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit any personal data, usage statistics, or focus session information. Your privacy is absolute. Check our privacy policy for more details.
dot needs tab permissions to:
- Open the focus exercise in a new tab
- Return you to your original tab after the exercise
- Detect if you try to switch tabs during the exercise
We never read, record, or transmit any information about your browsing activity.
Currently, dot is available for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, etc.). We're actively working on versions for Firefox and Safari. Join our mailing list to be notified when they launch!
Yes! Once installed, dot works completely offline. You don't need an internet connection to use the focus exercises. Everything runs locally in your browser.
